Common questions

How do I use the vascular anatomy navigator?

Pick a map (abdomen, pelvis, leg, foot, head and neck from the front or side, brain arteries, or brain veins from the side or from above), then tap any artery or vein. Its card shows where it comes from, what it supplies or drains, its branches and why it matters in interventional radiology. Search finds any of the vessels by name.

How can I quiz myself on vascular anatomy?

Switch to Find it to be given a vessel name and tap it on the map, or to Name it to identify a highlighted vessel. Vessels you miss come back sooner until you know them.

What is the difference between an artery and a vein?

Arteries carry blood away from the heart, and veins carry it back. The pulmonary arteries are the exception in color terms: they carry blood low in oxygen to the lungs. On the maps arteries are red, systemic veins blue and the portal system purple.

Which vessels matter most in interventional radiology?

The access vessels (common femoral and radial arteries, internal jugular and common femoral veins), the visceral arteries treated with embolization (hepatic, splenic, gastroduodenal, uterine and prostatic arteries), the iliac veins in May–Thurner syndrome and the portal vein in TIPS.

For education only, not medical advice. Anatomy varies between people; common variants are noted on the vessel cards.
