Central Pontine Myelinolysis (CPM) is characterized by demyelination primarily in the central pons, often due to rapid correction of hyponatremia. Clinically, patients may present with acute neurological deficits such as quadriplegia, pseudobulbar palsy, or locked-in syndrome. A common pitfall is mistaking CPM for other causes of pontine lesions, such as infarction or tumors.
