Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between covered and bare-metal stents?

A covered stent (stent graft) has a fabric or polymer lining such as ePTFE that seals the vessel wall, used for ruptures, aneurysms, fistulas and some occlusions. A bare-metal stent is an open mesh that holds the vessel open.

Self-expanding or balloon-expandable?

Self-expanding stents (usually nitinol) spring open and flex with the vessel, suited to mobile segments. Balloon-expandable stents are placed precisely and have high radial strength, suited to ostial and calcified lesions.

What is a venous stent?

A stent designed for veins, such as the iliac veins in May-Thurner syndrome or post-thrombotic obstruction. Venous stents are typically larger (12 to 20 mm) and built to resist compression.

How many venous stents (iliac vein stents) are listed?

We list 11 product lines of venous stents (iliac vein stents) registered with the FDA, from manufacturers including Angiomed GmbH & Co. Medizintechnik KG, Bard Peripheral Vascular, Inc., Merit Medical Systems, Inc., Medtronic, Inc., Cook Ireland Ltd.

How do I buy venous stents (iliac vein stents) outside the United States?

Open a product and use Where to buy: it lists the manufacturer's website, contact and distributor pages and any reps who cover your country. Approvals such as the CE mark vary by country, so confirm availability with the manufacturer.

Where do these sizes come from?

From the FDA Global Unique Device Identification Database, which lists every model and its labeled sizes. Attributes such as coating or covering come from the FDA text, the manufacturer's own pages, or the manufacturer directly; always confirm with the instructions for use.

Is something missing or wrong?

Manufacturers can correct their products by claiming their company page. Anyone can send a sourcing request and we will look into it.
