TECHNIQUE: Following the careful explanation of the potential risks and benefits of the procedure, oral and written informed consent was obtained. The patient was placed supine on the gurney.

The left neck was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. Local anesthesia was achieved with approximately 5 ml of 1% lidocaine. Under direct ultrasound guidance, fine-needle aspiration with a 20-gauge needle was performed.

Manual pressure was applied until hemostasis was achieved. A sterile dressing was applied.

The patient tolerated the procedure well. The patient was monitored by an independent observer/nurse throughout entire approximately 30 minutes of procedure.

IMPRESSION:
Successful 20-gauge fine-needle aspiration of a 1 cm left sided cervical lymph node. Please note as per patient and sonographic findings the size of this lymph node has decreased from 2 cm to 1 cm post antibiotic treatment.
